Rob Lowe Receives Backlash For ‘Heartless’ Paris Attack Tweets

Rob Lowe is
drawing criticism after a series of Tweets he posted following the deadly
Paris attacks.

Lowe, like many others, took to
Twitter to share his reaction to the news of the devastating violence, which claimed more
than 100 lives, and kicked things off innocently enough with a simple
“Vive La France” post that received more than a thousand likes.

However, he soon followed with
apparent criticism of French President Francois Hollande, whose decision to
close the nation’s borders in the wake of the tragedy didn’t seem to sit well
with the “Grinder” star.

Some users
took Lowe to task for his “insensitive,” “heartless” and
“atrocious” remarks, chiding the actor for what they perceived as
unnecessary politicization.

“Probably not the best
time to be cracking jokes,” @jaysenbowman advised, but others didn’t
choose their words as carefully.

“This
is the worst Tweet of all time,” @AnthonyBLSmith wrote.

A few showed their displeasure
by parodying the actor’s DirecTV ads.

Hours
later, Lowe appeared to try and smooth things over with a more compassionate
Tweet, writing, “Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in
that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love.
#FrenchPrayers.”

While his backtracking didn’t
make much difference to some, Lowe did get replies from those who supported his
message.
