Rockers Incubus ‘Dig’ For A Winner

LOS ANGELES (February 14, 2007) — Southern California rockers Incubus took a new approach in making the video for their new single “Dig,” they turned it into a fan contest.

After filming themselves on a green screen, the group, fronted by Brandon Boyd, put out a call for fans to make their own promotional clip for the emotive song. Over 100 entries filtered in to Incubus HQ, and last night the band picked their winner, Carlos Oliveira, from Portugal, whose entry can be viewed at www.idigincubus.com.

“I think we were pretty decided on his video,” guitarist Mike Einzinger told Five finalists were flown out to Hollywood, California for the announcement and tickets to Incubus’ final gig on a theater tour the band booked to kick off their sixth artist album Light Grenades. Though they didn’t take home the prize, finalists Justin Hanna from Barbiton, OH, Matt Ryan from Austin, TX, Derry Schwantner of Cohasset, MA and Ramon Boutviseth from Charlotte, NC enthused about their trip

“This is like the grand prize to me,” Ryan said while sitting backstage.

“This is the total grand prize,” Schwantner added. “They never have to come down [from the dressing room] and mention another thing about this video. This is the best part of it.”

In fact, at least one of the finalists told Access working for Incubus made it all worthwhile.

“It’s still a good opportunity for us to make a video for a band we love,” Boutviseth said.

As for Incubus, in the days following Monday night’s gig, they plan to finally start thinking about a stadium tour, set for this summer. Just don’t ask the band for hints about what to expect on the jaunt.

“We actually don’t really know yet to be perfectly honest,” Einzinger laughed. “We’ve spent a lot of time on [these theater shows and] we wanted to make the experience really amazing for our fans. [Next], we’re going to focus the summer, ‘cause we’re going to be back playing bigger places. We’ll come up with something spectacular.”
