ROLL CALL: Britney Doesn’t Need Jermaine Dupri

Your Daily Dispatch of Celebrity Shenanigans

No Dupri For Britney: Following her knockout comeback at the 2008 VMAs, fans of Britney Spears are anxiously awaiting her next album, which she’s currently working on in the studio – but one person she’s not working with is super producer Jermaine Dupri. “I don’t think she needs me,” Dupri told E!‘s gossip guru Marc Malkin. “Her last album was a good album. She probably would have sold three million records if everybody wasn’t paying attention to her babies and all that.”

Phelps A Natural Actor?: Kevin Connolly of “Entourage” told Us Weekly that Michael Phelps’ guest spot on the HBO series “was fantastic.” When asked if Michael was a natural, Kevin responded, “He sure is.” Phelps might have nailed his guest spot, but his true test will come on Sept. 13, when he hosts NBC’s season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” — live sketch comedy might be even harder than winning eight gold medals!

Jessica The Fun Aunt: Jessica Simpson is planning on being the fun aunt for her sister Ashlee’s baby. “I’m going to spoil the kid rotten, that’s for sure,” she told E!‘s Michael Yo on the “Yo on E!” radio show. “I think my sister’s going to be pretty strict, actually, because she’s been so good throughout her pregnancy.” Jessica also can hardly believe how much her little sister has grown up. “She’s just such a woman,” Jessica said. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh – what’s happened to my sister?’”

New Couple Alert: The on-again off-again couple of Lauren Conrad and Brody Jenner just might be off all together. Brody was spotted at the VMAs on Sunday with 2008 Playboy Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole, E! Online reports. “He walked the red carpet alone, but they sat together throughout the show,” a source said. Later in the night, the duo was reportedly spotted at the InTouch party at the Chateau Marmont holding hands and kissing. No word what Lauren thinks about the new couple, but we’re sure her team of “Hills” writers will come up with something sassy and angst-ridden!
