Adam Lambert wasn’t too pleased with certain aspects of “Les Miserables,” saying some of the cast was “pretending to be singers” and one star of the Tom Hooper-directed movie musical is responding to the former “American Idol’s” criticisms.
Over the weekend, Adam fired off a slew of Tweets about the musical.
“Les Mis: Visually impressive w great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers,” he wrote, adding, “And I do think it was cool they were singing live- but with that cast, they should have studio recorded and sweetened the vocals.”
Russell Crowe – who plays strong arm of the law Javert in the film — responded to Adam’s comments during a Twitter chat with a fan.
“I don’t disagree with Adam, sure it could have been sweetened, Hooper wanted it raw and real, that’s how it is,” the actor wrote.
Adam did not single out Russell during his Twitter rant, but also failed to mention the Oscar winner when discussing what he did like about the movie.
“Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Enjolras were the exceptions for me… Helena B Carter and Sasha B Cohen were great too,” Adam continued. “Eponine’s voice was cool too…”
Adding, “I felt like I should ignore the vocals and focus on the emotional subtext- but the singing was so distracting at times it pulled me out… The industry will say ‘these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live’ but why not cast actors who could actually sound good?”
Despite his strong feelings about the movie, during his Twitter rant the former “American Idol” contestant did give a shout out to Anne Hathaway.
“One more clarification: DO go see it for Anne Hathaway’s performance. It’s was breathtaking,” he wrote.
