Ryan Gosling Speaks On Washington Panel For Darfur

Joining the ranks of George Clooney and Don Cheadle, Ryan Gosling took part in a panel addressing the concerns and problems in Darfur.

The actor was in Washington D.C. on Wednesday with the ENOUGH Project (an organization aimed at ending genocide) to speak on the “Confronting Genocide and Mass Atrocities,” panel at the Campus Progress National Conference, the Washington Post reports.

“For some reason, there’s an interest in what people who do what I do have to say. I don’t particularly have that much to say . . . but I do have these experiences that I can relay. I’m honored to have these experiences,” Ryan, who appeared to be rather modest during the start of the panel, said.

The “Lars and the Real Girl” actor experienced life in Darfur first hand with a recent trip to a refugee camp in the war-torn country. He said celebrity carried very little weight on the other side of the globe.

”[People in Darfur looked at me] not like I was just some actor from Hollywood who was there to have an experience. They looked at me like I was somebody who could really do something. And I didn’t consider myself in that way,” he added.

His visit with Darfur refugees appears to have left a lasting impression on the actor.

“I still can see the way they looked at me,” he added.

Ryan was joined on the panel by ENOUGH Project Co-chairman John Prendergast and African activist Betty Bigombe.
