Ryan Murphy Wants To Keep ‘Glee’s’ Kurt & Blaine ‘Apart As Long As Possible!’

Fans of “Glee’s” Kurt Hummel were excited last year when they heard he was getting a love interest this season, but it appears things may not flow smoothly with his first crush – Blaine.

Show co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed to Out magazine, which features Blaine’s portrayer, Darren Criss, on its new cover, that the openly gay, prep school standout has some heavy questions on his mind.

“It’s my job as showrunner to keep them apart as long as possible,” Ryan told the mag. “Blaine will openly question whether bisexuality is real. I think that some people will love that discussion and some will not love it.”

So far, Kurt’s played the doting younger classman and quick best pals with his new Warblers choirmate, and Ryan hinted that giving the two on-screen teens a romantic relationship is something he’s still considering.

“When that moment comes – if it comes… I want to treat that relationship like we treat all the other relationships on the show. I want it to be flawed and as exposed as everyone else’s,” he said.

As for Darren, he told Out that playing Kurt’s support system is important for viewers.

“The most important thing to convey to those watching is for Kurt to have someone he can relate to,” Darren told the mag. “This is the first time he has a young out male friend, a support system, to show that that’s possible.”

He added that he’s glad to set an example by revealing he is a straight man, playing a gay character on TV.

“It’s more empowering to everybody if I’m articulate about identifying myself as a straight male playing a gay character,” Darren told the mag. “Ultimately that’s more powerful for both communities.”
