Sarah Ferguson knows what it’s like to live life in the public eye and the Duchess of York says she feels for Prince William and Catherine following the release of topless paparazzi photos of The Duchess of Cambridge.
“They are a beautiful couple doing an extraordinary job for Great Britain. Catherine is always full of grace and dignity and she’s beautiful — she didn’t do anything wrong,” Sarah, who stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Thursday to promote her latest children’s book, “Ballerina Rosie,” told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “They look beautiful and they had a lovely time together and it was so romantic… it’s beautiful to see a young couple in love.”
Having dealt with her own scandalous photo release in 1992, Sarah said she knows how it feels firsthand – and wouldn’t wish the humiliation on anyone.
“[It’s] not just [an] invasion of privacy, it’s also the invasion of her inner space,” she said. “I’ve been there. I know what it feels like. There’s nothing – it’s just so cruel to go to that level.”
Adding, “Nobody’s entitled to that.”
As for whether the Palace’s swift legal action over the photos of Catherine will help deter invasive photos in the future, Sarah said she doesn’t think the situation will improve anytime soon.
“I’ve been in public life 27 years now and when Diana and I were together it was bad then,” she said, referencing Princess Diana, who died in 1997 after the vehicle she was traveling in crashed while being chased by aggressive paparazzi. “It’s the same now and it’s gonna get worse and worse with these telephones with cameras on [them].”
