Sasha Allen On Covering Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You On The Voice

“The Voice’s” Sasha Allen took the stage on Monday night and tackled one of the biggest songs of all time – the Whitney Houston version of “I Will Always Love You.”

“I guess I kind of felt like it’s do or die at this point,” Sasha said last Friday as she spoke to a small group of journalists in “The Voice” studio, of taking on the number. “You just kind of have to pull out all the stops.”

Sasha credited Whitney for inspiring her to sing in the first place and that is one of the reasons she wanted to take on the classic pop hit (originally penned by Dolly Parton).

“I’m a huge fan of hers. She inspires me,” Sasha said. “She’s probably the reason why I started singing. I’m thinking of it more as like a tribute to her, ‘cause there is no out doing her.”

And the coaches were impressed on Monday night’s “The Voice.”

“You did an incredible job,” Adam Levine said. “It’s a monster song. You weren’t imitating anybody. You were doing it your own way and you took your own approach, which I respect a lot because it’s a tough song, big shoes to fill.”

Usher was also impressed.

“You really did an amazing job and that voice right there is gonna keep you here, on this show,” he said.

Shakira, Sasha’s coach, said she was proud of her.
