Scandal’s Joshua Malina: ‘Social Media Has Been A Huge Part Of Our Success!’

ABC’s “Scandal” got even bigger during its second season run and Joshua Malina knows that Twitter gave the show a boost.

“Social media has been a huge part of our success, I believe,” Joshua told Access Hollywood at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco, last week.

“The entire cast made a commitment to live Tweet every episode. We’ve even live Tweeted reruns. Turns out we’re hooked on it,” he added. “We ask the viewers to watch the show as it happens and we’ve made the counter commitment to be there to interact with you while it happens.”

As the season drew to a close on ABC, a plot twist suggested that Joshua’s character, David Rosen, was the mole, and he told Access that development (which twisted even further in the following episode, when it was revealed he was working with the main mole, Billy) promoted a flurry of Tweets.

“After the penultimate episode, people were very unhappy with me. I got called a lot of things. A lot of angry Tweets were directed at me. That was my first dose of, ‘You know it’s a TV show right?” he said.

“But I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed the accumulated malice of the viewing population,” he added.
