Scarlett Johansson: I Auditioned For Les Miserables With Laryngitis

It’s Anne Hathaway who is up for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Fantine in “Les Miserables,” but she faced competition from other big names to even get the part, including Scarlett Johansson.

“I sang my little heart out,” Scarlett told Broadway.com about her audition for the role.

The “Avengers” actress said she had more than a little trouble though – she was sick when she auditioned.

“I auditioned with laryngitis. I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis,” the actress said.

Scarlett doesn’t have any hard feelings over losing the part. In fact, she thinks Anne did a great job.

“Looking at the film now, there’s no possible way I ever could have topped that performance,” Scarlett said. “It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be.”

In related “Les Miserables” news, Universal revealed on Tuesday that the film will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on March 22.
