SCI FI Wire changed it’s name and redesigned their website. Under the new name Blastr, the website hopes to become the next step in the evolution of SCI FI Wire.
SCI FI Wire launched in 1997 as a news site with sci-fi, fantasy and horror stories from traditional sites like CNN and Variety. SCI FI Wire collected these stories and allowed readers to find sci-fi news in one place.
Today, millions of sites curate sci-fi entertainment news and in June, SCI FI Wire, famous for its Bruce Campbell’s Soup Labels, the Image of the Day and the Periodic Table of “The Empire Strikes Back,” reached nearly 1.5 million hits.
As Blastr, the site will deliver more news content, including features from guest writers of “Firefly,” “Stargate: Atlantis,” Discover Magazine and more.
The website will continue to expand with a new Twitter handle, Facebook page, and new mobile apps for iPhone and the Android.
Blastr’s name derives from the term “blaster,” which is a common term for a raygun used in science fiction books, movies and TV shows.
