Seal On Separation From Heidi: ‘The Healthy Thing To Do Right Now Is To Not Live A Lie’

Seal has revealed he and Heidi Klum have addressed their decision to separate as a couple with their beloved children.

During an interview on Access Hollywood Live on Friday with Billy Bush, Seal — who said this would be the last time he addressed the separation publicly – confirmed the pair have put family first and told their children – Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2, what is going on.

“We talk to them, we tried to explain, as best we could, what is going on,” Seal told Billy.

“The discord?” Billy asked.

“Just explaining to them that things will be different, you know, without going into too much detail,” Seal replied. “[That] things will be different… but a lot of things won’t change.

“And the main thing is to make sure that they feel that they’re loved, make sure that they understand that their parents love each other, make sure that they understand if there are any changes, it is absolutely nothing to do with them,” Seal continued. “And it won’t change the amount of time – and – in actual fact, it may even improve the amount of time that we spend with them – quality time – because it’s not the amount of time, as you know being a family man yourself, it’s the quality of that time.”

“Is reconciliation possible at all?” Billy asked.

“There is nothing to reconcile. We haven’t fallen out,” the singer explained. “We’re not getting divorced. We’re not even legally separated. We are separated. The reality of the situation is we have grown apart. And so… is there a chance of us getting back together? Honestly, Billy, I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that.”

Billy asked if the couple’s life in the spotlight, constant traveling and if they were able to give it all up, would it help fix their relationship.

“I know that if it were that simple, we wouldn’t be sitting her talking about it,” Seal said. “I’m not going to BS you and tell you that we don’t have – that there aren’t differences – of course we have differences. You don’t all of a sudden you know wake up and make a whimsical decision and say, ‘OK, we’re going to separate.’ No. This is an accumulative thing that happens over a period of time.”

Seal, who is still wearing his wedding ring, said his focus is making sure the woman he fell in love with is content.

“My main priority is that [Heidi] is happy. I just want her to be happy,” he continued. “I want our children to be happy of course. But I want her to be happy. It’s always been like that”

Adding, “We’re both pretty smart people and both of us understand that the healthy thing to do right now is to not live a lie because of our children. Forget what the outside world thinks… The priority is my wife and our children. And I put that before anyone else. And so my first agenda is to figure out what is best for that situation. Everything else will take care of itself.”

Seal’s latest album, “Soul 2,” is available now.
