Seth Rogen’s ‘Green Hornet’ Pushed Back 5 Months, Production Gets Underway

“Green Hornet” fans will have to wait a little longer to see the hero hit the big screen.

The masked hero movie, starring Seth Rogen in the title role, has been pushed back from its scheduled July 7, 2010 release date to December 17, 2010, a Sony rep confirmed to Access Hollywood.

The film has already begun production.

In an interview with HitFix on Sunday, Seth weighed in on the release date shift.

“We’ve both relieved and psyched about the change,” he explained. “It gives more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer. It also affords us more time to promote the film, (now we can go to Comic-Con with more than a car!) and ultimately is a great vote of confidence from the studio. We got the same date that movies like ‘I Am Legend’ and ‘Avatar’ are getting, so we’re thrilled to be there.”

However, the delay is the latest to strike the film, which has had a number of shakeups in the run-up to production, including Stephen Chow – previously set to both direct and play the role of sidekick Kato – exiting the film. Director Michel Gondry is now attached to direct.

Seth, the star of this summer’s “Funny People,” co-wrote the “Green Hornet” script with usual writing partner Evan Goldberg. The pair previously wrote “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express.”
