It’s a boy for Shakira and soccer star boyfriend Gerard Pique!
The 37-year-old singer announced the birth of their second son on her website.
“We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona,” a posted statement read.

The couple also revealed the powerful meaning behind their newborn’s name.
“The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means ‘defender of mankind’ and ‘warrior,'” the statement continued.
Adding, “The hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in excellent health.”

Back in April, Shakira opened up about her desire for a large family – enough kids for a team!
“I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard – my own futbol team,” she told Latina magazin at the time.
She also recently opened up about getting married to Gerard, something she’s not worried about.

“We already have what’s essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby,” Shakira told Glam Belleza Latina’s summer 2014 issue. “I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I’m ever going to get married, he’s the one.”
Shakira and Gerard welcomed their first son, Milan, in January 2013.
