Sharon Osbourne Confirmed As New ‘Talent’ Judge

Sharon Osbourne is officially the new judge for the second season of “America’s Got Talent,” NBC confirms.

Osbourne will join David Hasselhoff and Piers Morgan to judge the hit talent competition series when it returns with a two-hour premiere on Tuesday, May 29 (9-11 p.m. ET).

As previously announced, Jerry Springer will be the new host of the series, which was last summer’s top-rated new show.

“Sharon Osbourne is show business personified and she has seen and done it all,” says Craig Plestis, EVP of Alternative Programming, Development and Specials for NBC Entertainment. “She will make an excellent fit with David and Piers, who we’re delighted to have back for another great season.”

Along with her world-famous tenure on MTV’s “The Osbournes,” Sharon’s music and television credits prove that she is much more than merely Ozzy Osbourne’s wife. She has hosted her own daytime talk show, guest starred on “Will & Grace,” “Days of our Lives” and “Punk’d,” and created the successful Ozzfest summer touring festival, which went on to become a prime rock occasion and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006.

Most importantly (as far as this new gig is concerned), she served as a judge on U.K. talent show “The X Factor,” along with Simon Cowell, from 2004-06.

“On this show, it just had to be Sharon Osbourne,” says Cowell, who created and executive produces “America’s Got Talent.”

Osbourne is filling the spot left by the departure of one of last year’s judges, Brandy Norwood.

While NBC doesn’t address Brandy’s absence for the new season, there has been speculation that she is off the show because of her involvement in a civil suit, stemming from a December 2006 auto accident that killed a woman in Los Angeles.

“Brandy has enjoyed her association with the program,” reps for the R&B singer told the Hollywood Reporter. “However, she felt she couldn’t give the new season the attention and commitment it deserved.”
