‘Sherlock’ Releases First Look Clip Of Victorian-Era Special

“Sherlock” fans can be happy at least one piece of the series’ newest mystery has been solved.

PBS posted an exclusive first look clip of the highly anticipated “Sherlock” special to YouTube on Thursday, showing the titular antihero (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his loyal sidekick, Watson (Martin Freeman), navigating 1800s London in full Victorian garb.

The period setting won’t be a surprise to devoted viewers. The BBC already announced the show was making a time jump when a photo of Benedict and Martin in their dapper costumes hit the internet on Wednesday.

“Sherlock” may have made name for itself, as well as its stars, with a refreshing modern twist on the classic lore, but creator Steven Moffat told the crowd at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday that he’s confident the series’ most beloved traits have proven timeless.

“It’s very much the show you know,” Moffat said during the show’s panel, adding that he was even partial to restructuring the show’s era for good.

[Producer] Sue [Vertue] had to talk us out of keeping it that way permanently,” he said.

“Sherlock” airs on PBS in the U.S. and BBC in the UK, but with notoriously long gaps between seasons many viewers are just anxious for it to air at all.

According to the sneak peek, the anticipated Christmas special is “Coming Soon…ish.”
