Shonda Rhimes Still Excited By ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ As 11th Season Approaches

“Grey’s Anatomy” is heading into its eleventh season on ABC this fall and Shonda Rhimes isn’t plotting the show’s end any time soon.

When a reporter asked the “Grey’s” boss on Tuesday about whether she was thinking about when the show could end, Shonda said she isn’t. She’s still excited by the men and women of Seattle Grace.

“‘Grey’s’ is still the number one drama on television for anybody under the age of 50, so no,” Shonda said. “Right now, as long as I am still interested in what happens next I am not thinking about that yet.”

This fall, ABC will have a Shonda night when her three dramas – “Grey’s,” “Scandal” and freshman series “How to Get Away with Murder,” starring Viola Davis — air on Thursday nights. Asked how she’s handling the workload, the producer said like she always has.

“I’ve had three shows on the air before. It’s not new at all. I’ve had three shows on the air, two of which I created and one of which I was producing. I’ve had three shows, all of which I created, all of which I was producing, so in a weird way, this is not as much work as when I had ‘Grey’s,’ ‘Private’ and ‘Scandal’ on the air,” she said. “This is actually not even close to that amount of work. So it’s fine. I don’t know. People ask me that question a lot and I don’t know what to tell them. You do as much work as you have in front of you and then you do the same amount of work the next day. That’s how I balance it.”

She’s also balancing an upcoming dinner at her home on July 23, where she will host President Barack Obama, as she raises funds for the Democratic National Convention.

“It’s exciting to get involved in the process and do something that feels active and like you’re trying to actively make some change,” she said of the event. “I will honestly admit that I don’t have anything to do with the preparations because I don’t do stuff like that. … I am at work, but there are lots of things happening and planning going on.”
