Simon Cowell’s Superstar Haiti Relief Single Hits The Airwaves

The star-studded cover of R.E.M.‘s 1992 classic “Everybody Hurts,” produced by Simon Cowell in aid of Haiti, made its debut on Tuesday.

The track, which was put together after a host of superstar artists visited recording studios across the world to lay down their vocals, made its premiere on the BBC’s Radio 1.

The new version opens with Leona Lewis singing the first few lines, followed by Rod Stewart and Mariah Carey.

Other stars who lent their voices to the tune included Miley Cyrus, Mika, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, James Blunt, James Morrison, Kylie Minogue and Susan Boyle.

“The Haiti earthquake has caused devastation and suffering that most of us will never experience nor could imagine. I feel privileged to be a part of such a wonderful project that will raise money to help the country,” Susan said, according to Britain’s Sky News.

Simon started the campaign not long after the earthquake and last week, many of the vocals were recorded in just a few days.

“Right now this is an absolute priority for us all, the people of Haiti need as much help as we can give them as soon as possible, every day the situation becomes more desperate,” Simon previously told Sky News about the project.

The track was being offered for sale in the U.K. on pre-order for 3.99 GBP, which is about $6.37 and the monies raised are set to be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun newspaper’s Helping Haiti appeal, Britain’s Sky news reported. It can be downloaded officially on February 7 or purchased in British stores on February 8.
