Skyfall: New Q Ben Whishaw Hoping To Stick Around James Bond Franchise

British actor Ben Whishaw joined the James Bond franchise, playing Q in “Skyfall,” and he said the new take on the classic character is what made him agree to the gig.

“I suppose I was intimidated a bit,” Ben told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent at the “Skyfall” premiere in London on Tuesday, of stepping into the role. “But I also thought, this is such a good opportunity because I’m so much younger than the character. I mean, I can’t really be compared, and I wouldn’t try. Desmond [Llewelyn] and John Cleese were so tremendous, so I thought it had to be new and fresh.”

Ben’s character is an ally of Bond’s, who helps out with technology – computers, gadgets and high-tech weapons – and the British actor, a star of the acclaimed BBC America series, “The Hour,” could be around the Bond franchise for a while.

“I don’t know how many I’m due to do. I want to do it as much as I can. I had such a wonderful time,” Ben told Tim.

“Skyfall,” however, isn’t the first time Ben has teamed up with Daniel on screen.

“I have worked with Daniel before. I first worked with Daniel when I was 17 on a film called ‘The Trench’ and then I did ‘Layer Cake’ with him, and I did a film called ‘Enduring Love,’ so I [feel] like I know him fairly well, so it was wonderful to be reunited with him,” he said.

“Skyfall” opens November 8 in the U.S.

Ben returns to play Freddie Lyon in Season 2 of BBC America’s “The Hour” on November 28 at 9/8c.
