U.S. soccer superstar Landon Donovan has filed for divorce from his actress wife, Bianca Kajlich, Access Hollywood has confirmed.
The petition was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.
In court papers obtained by Access, Donovan cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The athlete is also requesting spousal support and that his attorney fees be paid by Kajlich, as well.
Though the date of separation is listed as October 31, 2009, the 28-year-old footballer sparked rumors of a possible romantic reunion in June, when he blew a kiss to Kajlich after scoring the game-winning goal for the U.S. in the 2010 World Cup match against Algeria.
The estranged couple married on New Year’s Eve in 2006 and have no children together.
Kajlich, 33, currently stars on the CBS comedy, “Rules of Engagement.”
