‘Spidey’ Producer Heads Up Oscar Show

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (July 21, 2006) — “Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin is returning as the Oscars show producer.

Ziskin, who produced the 2002 Oscars, returns for the 79th annual Academy Awards on Feb. 25, 2007, said Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“It is a terrific, really fun challenge for a producer — commingling the thrills of putting on a live show, the creating of an exciting broadcast for the people watching at home and celebrating the extraordinary medium of film,” Ziskin said Friday.

Gil Cates produced last year’s show, which is nominated for an Emmy.

When Ziskin produced the 74th Oscars, it was a record long 4-hour, 23-minute broadcast. The 2002 show got eight Emmy nominations, including one for Ziskin as producer. The show won an Emmy for choreography.

“This is a tough producing job but we’ve been blessed with terrific producers, including Laura — her 2002 show was one of the most colorful and fun shows in my memory,” Ganis said Friday.

Ziskin, producer of the two “Spider-Man” movies, is in production on “Spider-Man 3,” which Sony will release next summer. She was also executive producer of “As Good As It Gets” and “Pretty Woman.”

Oscar nominees will be announced Jan. 23.
