Staff Blog: Christina’s Hot New Summer Single (June 2, 2006, 1:25 PM PDT)

The songs of summer are here, and this morning, I got my first listen.

Christina Aguilera premiered her new single “Ain’t No Other Man” on radio stations across the country today. I was driving into work listening to Ryan Seacrest on his morning radio show, KIIS-FM, when I heard it. And for those amongst you who have also heard it — you probably already believe me when I say this: along with Rihanna’s “S.O.S.,” Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” (listen to the Moto Blanco Mix of it!), Nelly Furtado’s (feat. Timbaland) “Promiscuous,” and inevitably, Beyonce’s to-be-released next single, “Deja Vu” — this is the sound of summer for 2006!

The track is HOT! Christina’s new album is called “Back To Basics” and is influenced by jazz sounds of the 20’s and 30’s, with a contemporary twist.

I remember back in 1999 when Christina, Jessica and Britney all busted out of the gate at the same time. Well, Britney actually came out blazing a year earlier in 1998 with “Hit Me Baby One More Time”, but the other two followed closely on her success. Clearly, Christina’s voice was a notch above those of the other two young women. Britney and Jessica have lived much more publicly — Christina (especially with regards to her recent marriage to record executive Jordan Bratman), has flown significantly more under the radar than her counterparts.

On her last album, 2002’s “Stripped,” she showed her “Dirrty” side. She’s reinvented herself again … hmmm, “reinvention” … what other superstar [with a 23-year-long career] does that sound like?

Christina is a superstar and I expect this album will be as big as her last one.

Later that morning, Seacrest was also set to debut the first single from Paris Hilton’s upcoming album. I made it into the office before hearing it, but why do I have the feeling it’s not quite at the level of Mrs. Aguilera?s?
