Star Trek: Alice Eve Talks Playing Dr. Carol Marcus In Sequel

“Star Trek Into Darkness” has a new bombshell, but don’t expect Alice Eve’s character to just be another notch on Captain Kirk’s Federation-issued belt.

Access Hollywood’s Scott “Movie” Mantz (“Star Trek” super fan) sat down with the actress at the preview junket for the highly anticipated sequel, where she spoke about playing Dr. Carol Marcus.

“Kirk is on his own journey as captain, but hadn’t quite understood what it meant spiritually and philosophically and morally. You really have to lead in more ways than just sitting in the seat… I think everyone in this movie serves to put him on the correct path and guide him in some way,” she explained.

Adding, “Carol Marcus being the forthright, determined and intelligent woman that she is has her role in that too. And perhaps has Kirk’s ear.”

Fans will remember the Dr. Marcus character – a leading molecular biologist who develops the planet revolutionizing Project Genesis – as first appearing in 1982’s “Star Trek II:
The Wrath of Khan” and being the mother to Kirk’s son, David. But with the alternate reality shift that occurred in director J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot, no one knows if the same events will play out for Kirk and Dr. Marcus.

So do Kirk and Dr. Marcus have any romance in deep space moments?

According to Chris Pine, the sequel is packed full of action and adventure, not leaving much time for interstellar romance.

“But Kirk obviously being Kirk, and Alice being a beautiful blond, there is definitely the flirting and the excitement that comes with that,” Chris revealed. “But I think Alice’s presence in this film is that she’s a hyper-intelligent doctor and it is her scientific knowledge that really plays a key role in this film.”

“Star Trek Into Darkness” blasts into theaters on May 17, 2013.
