Star Wars Episode 7 Slated For 2015; Disney Acquires Lucasfilm

Cue the celebrating from Tatooine to Coruscant – another “Star Wars” movie is coming!

On Tuesday, the Walt Disney Company announced that it will acquire Lucasfilm from George Lucas in a deal worth $4.05 billion.

But more importantly to “Star Wars” fans, a seventh film in the franchise has been announced.

“Episode 7,” which would pick up after the events of 1983’s “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi,” is slated for release in 2015, with Lucas serving as the as creative consultant for the movie.

But will Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 appear in the upcoming movie?

Details about the movie’s plot and characters – and when exactly the movie will pick up following the events in “Jedi” – were not release.

In addition to a seventh film, Disney also announced plans for further feature films in the galactic saga.

“The new Star Wars movie will be really different from the very first frame! Instead of starting with the classic Twentieth Century Fox logo and music, it will start with the Disney logo and music!,” Access’ Scott “Movie” Mantz said. “Wow, so many possibilities! No matter what people thought of the prequels, the prospect of an all-new ‘Star Wars’ movie is really exciting!”
