“Star Wars: Episode VII” will begin decades after the second Death Star was destroyed by Rebel forces (and as the Ewoks cheered) during “Return of the Jedi.”
Disney announced on StarWars.com that “Episode VII” will take place “30 years after the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’ and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.”
The only officially announced character returning so far is the beloved droid R2-D2, but Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are rumored to be reprising their iconic roles.

Other actors rumored to be in the running for the highly anticipated movie include “Girls” star Adam Driver as a villain, “Downton Abbey’s” Ed Speleers, “Attack the Block’s” star John Boyega, “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Light’s” Jesse Plemons and stage actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.
“Star Wars: Episode VII” will blast into theaters on December 18, 2015.
