Stephen Amell On His Facebook Community; Talks Oliver’s ‘Arrow’ Season 3 Struggles

“Arrow’s” Stephen Amell has made a unique connection with his fans via his Facebook page as he promotes the show, his charitable causes, and has a bit of fun, and the experience has made an impression on the actor.

“I like it. I’ve been thinking a lot about social media recently and I think that… think of social media like *N SYNC, okay? I think that Facebook is Timberlake and I think that all the other forums are the other members of the group,” he told reporters last Friday on set, after being asked what his Facebook community means to him.

The actor, who plays Oliver Queen/The Arrow, said he’s found Facebook welcoming, but is considering exiting another platform.

“I actually — as happy as I am right now with Facebook, I think I’m done with Twitter. Twitter feels like a fad to me and I’ve been really disappointed by the level of — just the level of vitriol and I don’t know if that’s a byproduct of the anonymity there, but when you’re sort of scrolling through, looking at Twitter reactions to the show, they exist at the edge of each spectrum. … They’re either…they’re incredibly negative towards some characters, they’re overwhelmingly positive towards others…”

But, Amell said he continues to be interested in how he can interact with people on Facebook.

“On the Facebook side, connecting with the fans in that way, I think, holds a lot more value, holds a lot more sway and it’s just been fun because I’m the same person as I was before I got this job, but this job has given me the platform to have fun and do interesting things on Facebook,” he added.

Stephen’s working away on “Arrow” Season 3, and when a reporter asked the actor about the death of Sara Lance/Canary (Caity Lotz) in the premiere episode, and whether Oliver can see life beyond his The Arrow costume once he avenges her murder, the actor said that will be addressed.

“I think right now, Oliver can’t see past the idea of being The Arrow. That’s it,” Stephen told reporters. “One of the cool things that we’re doing this year is we are setting up a world, by the end of the season, where ultimately he will have that choice, and one way or the other, he will make it. But vengeance and revenge is certainly on his mind.”

“Arrow” continues Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
