‘Suits’: Gabriel Macht On How Harvey Specter’s Coping Without Donna

Harvey Specter isn’t dealing with losing Donna Paulsen on “Suits” very well.

He’s had panic attacks, and is seeing a therapist, and according to Gabriel Macht, who plays the Pearson-Specter-Litt hot shot, this new, unsettled side of Harvey will be explored as Season 5 continues.

“Donna leaves him for Louis’ desk and Harvey’s dealing with a ton of issues, most importantly, I think, abandonment issues and we’re going to learn later where that all comes from,” Gabriel told Access Hollywood at NBC Universal’s press day in New York City.

“It’s an interesting arc this season because Harvey’s in therapy and all the important women in his life have been telling him, ‘You gotta be vulnerable. You gotta reveal yourself. You gotta open up. You gotta share and that will get you in touch with who you are inside,'” Gabriel continued. “He’s this guy who has a strong armor and has a lot of confidence and that is sort of his outer thing and underneath, he really is insecure like everybody else, and he really does have these issues that he’s dealing with.”

One issue many Suitors would like Harvey to address is how he really feels about Donna. If not a working relationship, could there be a romantic one in their future?

“I can’t answer that question I have no idea,” Gabriel said. “There’s an audience that really wants that to happen, there’s an audience that doesn’t want that to happen. I think the mystery of that is still very interesting and alluring to the audience. … There are complicated feelings going back and forth between the two characters, whether they’re conscious or unconscious and I think that’s what makes it sort of fun to watch.”

There will be plenty of time to figure out what really is going on between Harvey and Donna.

On Wednesday, USA renewed “Suits” for a sixth season.

“‘Suits’ has set the bar high in every way and continues to be a strong performer and marquee property for USA,” Chris McCumber, President of USA Network, said in a statement. “From the incredible on-screen performances and brilliant writing to the aspirational lifestyle portrayed, we look forward to continuing to bring viewers into the world of SUITS every week.”
