Suits: Gabriel Macht Reacts To Harvey Specter’s Big Promotion; Sarah Rafferty Talks Flashback Scenes

Three seasons in on USA’s “Suits” and Harvey Specter finally has his name on the door.

After Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) hinted that a political promotion could be in the works for Gabriel Macht’s character in last week’s episode, on Tuesday night, “Suitors” finally saw Harvey’s surname get some prime law office real estate. The entryway to the law firm now reads: “Pearson Darby Specter.”

Gabriel said he actually wasn’t surprised when he first learned the moment was going to happen for his character.

“I thought it would be a bigger moment for me,” he laughed after USA flew up several journalists, including AccessHollywood.com, up to the Toronto “Suits” set while the cast were filming. “But, it was like, ‘OK, that happens now. OK.’ Because I sort of imagined that at some point they’re gonna write that.”

While the reason for Harvey’s name on the door has to do with ongoing power plays within the firm’s top brass, Harvey’s secretary Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) was elated by the news.

“Harvey’s dream for himself is Donna’s dream for him,” Sarah said during the same set visit.

“They just get each other,” she added. “It’s like they had some past life with each other, you know what I mean? … Just as he’s the cockiest like, ‘I’m the best closer in the city,’ she’s like, ‘I know everything. I basically run this.’ … So the idea of being the right hand to the guy whose name is on the door is like, thrilling to her. [It’s] really thrilling to her.”

Something that likely thrilled “Suitors” during Tuesday’s episode was the flashback to 10 years ago when Harvey quit the D.A.’s office. And, in that moment, when Harvey and Donna were no longer co-workers, they were able to toss aside her “no fraternizing with co-workers” rule, and the show hinted something happened between the pair — something involving a can of whip cream.

There was also plenty of in-office flirting beforehand.

“They have a looser kind of banter and they’re having more fun and they’re really comfortable with each other,” Sarah added, referring to the flashback episode. “They don’t have the weight of like, the merger and what’s going on with Jessica. And Mike [Ross]… doesn’t exist. …The weight of that just isn’t on their life.”

Beyond the fun and the flirting (including with another secretary — Bertha), the flashback showed how Donna kept Harvey honest a decade ago and helped plant the seed that prompted him to leave the D.A.’s office and go work for Jessica.

And in Tuesday’s episode, he got really honest with the redheaded secretary in return when he told her he didn’t like that she’d broken her rule about no romantic relations with co-workers, and was fraternizing with British Harvey Stephen Huntley (Max Beesley).

To some, it might seem like Harvey’s admission opened a door, but Sarah hinted Donna isn’t ready for “Darvey” (Donna + Harvey) just yet.

“I don’t think it’s time, right now,” she said. “I don’t think Donna’s pining for Harvey, I don’t think she sees it that way right now.”

“Suits” continues next Tuesday night at 10/9c on USA.
