Susan Lucci On ‘Devious Maids’ Drama & Upcoming Disney Legends Honor At D23

One of the closest friendships on “Devious Maids” – between Genevieve Delatour and Zoila Diaz – recently hit a rough patch.

The characters, played by Susan Lucci and Judy Reyes, have had their ups and downs this season. There was the drama with Zoila’s sister and, most recently, Genevieve’s boyfriend, Dr. Zeff, moved in, so Zoila decided to move out.

“It’s going to be a big emptiness in the house,” Susan Lucci, who plays Genevieve on the Lifetime drama, told Access Hollywood, previewing Monday’s new episode. “They have been fighting a lot recently.

“It’s not going to be easy. Will Genevieve do her own laundry? I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Lucci added, with a laugh. “But more than that, there’s a great friendship — I would say even a sister relationship between Zoila and Genevieve. So certainly, I think they are going to miss each other.”

One of the things that has caused issues has been how quickly Dr. Neff (Mr. “Ooh-la-la”) has become a part of Genevieve’s life, but Lucci said she believes John O’Hurley’s character cares about hers.

“I do. … Well, Zoila thinks so, but Zoila’s very annoyed with him,” Lucci said. “Zoila’s always been annoyed with the men in Genevieve’s life, but maybe with good reason because Genevieve doesn’t choose that well. But Dr. Neff seems to have some redeeming qualities. [He’s] a little full of himself, but we’ll see. He’s handsome, he’s charming, he seems to be very good to Genevieve. He may have a different idea on how to run her household. We’ll see where that goes.”

Zoila may have moved out, but she’s back during the day for work, and with the doctor around, there’s another conflict brewing.

“I can tell people that it’s hilarious and there’s just a lot of funny things that happen, but also, touching things that happen,” Lucci said, previewing the episode. “The show is full of surprises and twists and turns that we as a cast don’t see coming and I think that makes it very fun to watch.”

The biggest surprise this season though, has been its central murder mystery.

“The mystery this season has certainly kept all of us in the cast guessing and we were always just trying to figure out who killed Louie, the tennis pro, and I will tell you that it kept us guessing until the finale, and we see all the scripts,” Lucci said. “And only one person guessed – the head of our hair department, Katrina, who’s fantastic. … But she guessed, but she’s the only one and really, it’s gone up until the end, so it’s been a wonderful mystery that has surprised all of us, and we see everything. I sound like a commercial, but really, stay tuned because it’s very interesting.”

Next month, the “Devious Maids” star will head to Southern California and the D23 EXPO 2015, where she will be honored with a Disney Legends award, celebrating her significant contributions to The Walt Disney Company.

The actress, who starred for decades on ABC’s “All My Children,” before her latest on run on ABC Studios-produced Lifetime drama “Devious Maids,” will be inducted as part of a class of eight that also includes musician/composer Danny Elfman, and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas. (ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Company.)

“I’m very excited. Very, very honored to be in the company of the other recipients,” she told Access. “I’m very, very happy to be going to LA in August and receive that award.”

With the event still several weeks away, Lucci hasn’t yet worked out what she’ll say when Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, who is hosting the ceremony, presents her with the honor.

“I think my remarks, my speech, will be kept short since there are eight of us receiving the award. I have not put it together yet, but certainly, it will reflect how honored I am, and I’m very happy to go there,” Lucci said. “Bob Iger and I actually worked together many, many years ago at the beginning of Bob’s career. He was studio supervisor at ‘All My Children’ in New York, and I can tell you that he was always bright and a gentleman and elegant and accessible. He was always fantastic. … He certainly deserves all his success, and I’m very flattered that he’s involved in [the] Disney Legends award.”

“Devious Maids” airs Mondays at 9/8c on Lifetime.
