Taylor Swift was recently ranked No. 12 on the Forbes celebrity power list (taking in an estimated $45 million last year), but the four-time Grammy winner says she still doesn’t feel “popular.”
“I’ve never felt like the coolest girl in the room. Ever,” Taylor told People magazine, in an interview for their November 1 issue. “Every time I’ve gotten to jump up and down and scream at the top of my lungs and dance around because I won an award, I was celebrating that like it was the last time it was ever gonna happen.”
Taylor’s new album, “Speak Now,” hits stores on October 25, and reportedly features songs rumored to be written about several of the country-crooner’s ex-flames and rivals, including “Twilight” hunk Taylor Lautner, her ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas, and Joe Jonas’ first post-Taylor girlfriend (actress Camilla Belle).
Taylor, who is known for putting her real-life experiences into song, said her dating partners shouldn’t be taken by surprise if they hear a song that sounds hauntingly familiar at this point.
“This is album No. 3,” she told the mag. “So I figure that these people have had fair warning.”
While the blond beauty gleans chart-topping inspiration from her personal relationships, she is currently happily unattached.
“Being single is wonderful and I love it,” Taylor told the mag. “If someone ends up in front of me who is worth taking a chance on, I’ll make that exception.
“But I don’t ever have a morning where I wake and say, ‘I really need to find a boyfriend today,’” she added.
Though she’s experienced incredible success since exploding onto the music scene as a 16-year-old, Taylor has managed to avoid the typical pitfalls of young Hollywood, and says she’s never “really felt compelled to be drunk.”
“I’m not, by nature, a party girl,” she said. “I don’t think I’m gonna all of a sudden start being in love with the idea of going to a club.”
Taylor refuses to take her fame for granted and keeps things fresh by purposefully enjoying the little things – including trips to the market.
“I love going to the grocery story,” she told the mag. “I’ve kept that on the list of things that make me happy.”
While seemingly mundane tasks like grocery shopping are admittedly “a more social experience now,” due to Taylor’s overwhelming fame, the star says she doesn’t mind being bombarded by fans.
“I never wanted to be the girl who gets everything she dreams about and starts complaining about it,” she told the mag.
