ABC Family’s “The Fosters,” about a same sex couple raising teenagers – one biological, two adopted and one foster child — premieres tonight, and Teri Polo said the show is really just about family.
“We’re not hitting anybody over the head with anything,” Teri told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Monday’s Access Hollywood Live. “This is a window into the life of a loving, committed couple, who are doing their best to raise four teenagers.”
Teri – perhaps best known for her role in the “Meet the Fockers” franchise — is paired up with actress Sherri Saum as moms Stef and Lena Foster in this series, and the actress said she found a special on-screen connection with her co-star.

“I have more chemistry with Sherri Saum than any man I’ve ever played the wife or girlfriend of in 27 years,” Terri said.
Asked why, Teri said Sherri, an alum of “One Life To Live” and “Rescue Me,” is very real.

“She’s such a magnificent actress and she is such a magnificent person,” Teri said. “There is no attitude. You know women actresses can get a little gnarly and she has no attitude, she has no insecurities, I mean she — we all do, but she’s just real. She’s just real and to run into that in this business is impossible.”
Teri also credited the young members of “The Fosters” cast, which includes Maia Mitchell, Jake T. Austin and David Lambert.
“These young kids… are the most talented group of young kids I have ever worked with,” she said.
“The Fosters” premieres tonight at 9/8c on ABC Family.
