The Access Entertainment Week In Review

Following last week’s ruling that Paris Hilton be sent back to jail to complete her sentence (after being released by LA County Sheriff Lee Baca to fulfill her sentence at her home), Paris was sent to the Correctional Treatment Center at Los Angeles County’s “Twin Towers” jail facility to be medically monitored until final housing could be determined.

Baca said he couldn’t reveal the exact nature of her condition because of confidentiality issues, but he characterized her problems as “psychological.”

Following her re-incarceration at Twin Towers, Hilton announced that she would not be filing an appeal.

“Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge’s decision. While I greatly appreciate the Sheriff’s concern for my health and welfare, I intend to serve my time at L.A. County Jail,” she said in a statement, adding that she hoped people would focus on “more important” things than her troubles, like the war in Iraq.

Paris continued to express this “new outlook” when she spoke to Barbara Walters on the phone Sunday night.

“She said, ‘I’m not the same person I was. I know now that I can make a difference, that I have the power to do that. I want to do different things when I’m out of here . . . I used to act dumb, it was an act and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me,’” Walters recounted. “She said ‘I’m 26 years old now and it is a different time.’ She said ‘I have become much more spiritual. God has given me this new chance.’”

The day after Paris’ impassioned words to Barbara, reports surfaced that Paris’ father, Rick Hilton, was shopping Las Vegas venues to secure a party location for Paris upon her release. On Tuesday, The Endeavor talent agency announced that it had dropped Paris as a client, declining to comment any further.

The following night, Paris was transferred back to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood to complete her sentence, after officials deemed her condition to be “stable.” She was placed in the medical unit at Lynwood, and if all goes well, she will be returned to the jail’s special needs unit and released June 25th, sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore said at a news conference Thursday morning.

In other news: “The Sopranos” garnered a lot of attention this week, as the series wrapped up with its big finale on Sunday night. While the show has been a huge hit on HBO for the past six seasons — and attracted a legion of diehard fans — many of those fans found themselves scratching their heads when the screen literally blacked out at episode’s end, without true resolution for the Soprano family. Series creator David Chase addressed the ensuing backlash, saying he would leave it to fans to interpret the show’s last scene for themselves (which featured the members of the Soprano family arriving at a diner for dinner as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” played). “I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there,” said Chase. He also stated that it would be highly unlikely that a movie follow-up would be created, as many fans had hoped.

The show’s cast members, including lead actor James Gandolfini, came to the defense of Chase and the show’s ending. Gandolfini told the NY Daily News that he had “no idea” what to think was to happen to his character after the blackout, saying, “You have to ask (“The Sopranos” creator) David Chase that. Smarter minds than mine know the answer to that. I thought it was a great ending. You decide.”

Isaiah Washington spoke up about being let go from “Grey’s Anatomy” this week, saying he was “saddened by the outcome,” while “Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes addressed the situation with Access Hollywood, saying, “I don’t want to read the tabloids, and I feel like we wrote the show in a way that really completes the story of [Washington’s character] Burke, and that is a really strong thing.”

Britney Spears was back in the spotlight this week, when she unwittingly flashed her backside (albeit, covered with underwear this time) to photographers as she climbed over the seat in her car. Rumors also surfaced this week that Britney and her estranged mother, Lynne, were working toward a reconciliation. There was also an unconfirmed rumor that Britney may be reconciling with her ex, Kevin Federline.

Spears also made news when she asked fans to help her choose the title of her upcoming album on her official Web site, raising eyebrows with an option that many assume was a joke: “Omg is Like Lindsay Lohan Like OK Like.”

As for Lindsay, it was reported this week that she is being sued by not one, but TWO different parties over her involvement in a 2005 car crash. The first lawsuit, dated May 18, 2007, is from Florian Loeckle, CEO of Grandeur, Inc for damage to their van. The plaintiff accuses Lohan of crashing into his “parked van” on October 4, 2005. He is asking for $3624.84 in compensation.

The second lawsuit, filed this week, is from Raymundo Ortega, who alleges the actress was under the influence of alcohol when she crashed her car into his van. The lawsuit, which seeks at least $200,000 in damages, also named The Ivy restaurant as a defendant, claiming its staff gave Lohan alcoholic drinks even though she was under the legal drinking age.

Lohan was believed to be fleeing the paparazzi when the accident occurred. She hit a red van (presumably Ortega’s) making an illegal U-Turn. The impact caused the van to hit Loeckle’s parked vehicle. At the time, authorities said it did not appear Lohan was responsible for the crash. As of this Friday, an after-hours e-mail from the Associated Press to Lohan’s publicist was not immediately returned, and a general manager at The Ivy could not be reached for comment.

Angelina Jolie showed off her stunning vintage dress (that only cost $26!) as she and her partner, Brad Pitt, walked the red carpet for the NYC premiere of her film, “A Mighty Heart.” Jolie also told Access that she and Brad support each other on the road, and that’s what makes their relationship work. She also had her say on “The Daily Show” about an agreement presented to members of the press at the premiere, which asked them not to ask her any personal questions.

“I didn’t put it out there,” Jolie said. “It was from my representatives trying to be protective of me, but it was excessive and I wouldn’t have put it out there. But it’s all right and nobody was forced to do it.” Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, told The New York Times that he blamed himself — a “bone-headed, overzealous lawyer” for the contract and that Jolie was unaware of the action. The document “was drafted overly broadly,” he said. “It was well intended, but I understand how it was received.”

Angelina and Brad had some good fortune this week, as they were both listed (separately) on Forbes’ annual “Celebrity 100 Power List,” which ranks the rich and famous based on earnings and buzz. If that weren’t enough, Brad’s new movie, “Ocean’s Thirteen,” topped the box office with $37.1 million, according to studio estimates Monday.

Princess Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, opened up to NBC’s Matt Lauer this week about the life, death, and legacy of their mother; as well as what it’s like to live life as a young prince in this day and age. They also had the honor of making People magazine’s “50 Hottest Bachelors” list, along with other magnetic males such as Justin Timberlake, Blake Lewis, Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey.

Some random tidbits from this week: Child stars-turned-entrepreneurs Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen turned 21, Kelly Clarkson shocked her fans with the news that her summer tour is being canceled, and Paul McCartney made a strong showing with the debut of his new album on the Starbucks Hear Music label (despite being bested by fellow chart newcomers T-Pain and Rihanna).

And finally, Access Hollywood‘s Nancy O’Dell welcomed her new baby, Ashby Grace Zubchevich, into the world! The little bundle of heavenly joy, born on Monday, weighed in at 7lbs 9oz and she measured a whopping 22 inches long.

Mother Nancy, father Keith, and the newest member of Access Hollywood – baby Ashby, are all doing well.
