The Access Entertainment Week In Review

It was big week for entertainment news, as an incarcerated heiress was set free, a pop princess made a mysterious delivery, and a TV star raised eyebrows in a foreign country.

After 23 days of being locked up, Paris Hilton walked out the front doors of the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California at 12:15 AM Tuesday morning. The smiling heiress walked past hoards of media who had gathered for hours awaiting her release from the facility. Waving at fans and shaking hands, the celebutante quickly made her way to her waiting parents, who drove her to her grandfather’s home in Los Angeles’ ritzy Holmby Hills area.

Upon Hilton’s release, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said, “She fulfilled her debt. She was obviously in good spirits. She thanked people as she left.”

As expected, a flurry of activity erupted outside the home of Paris’ grandfather, as dozens of media crews and a host of reporters packed in tightly on the street to get a view of the Hilton home comings and goings.

Inside, Paris welcomed hair and makeup experts as she prepared herself for the following day’s interview on “Larry King Live.”

“I just want to let people know what I went through,” she told King in Wednesday’s interview. “I’ve been through a lot and it was a pretty traumatic experience, something I really? I’ve grown from.”

Paris revealed much about her time behind bars in the interview with King, describing her emotional state while incarcerated, the conditions of her cell, and her feelings about being free again, among other things. And of course, the question on everyone’s mind – did time behind bars actually change her?

“Yeah, definitely. I have a new outlook on life,” she claimed. “After being there awhile, I had to accept I could either make the best of it or make the worst of it, so I just went with the motto, ‘Don’t serve the time, let the time serve you.’”

In her talk with King, Paris stressed that she was a “businesswoman.” To further understand Paris’ assertion, Access investigated the history of Paris’ business ventures in music, television, films, books, public appearances, and more – as well as revealing a brand new offer she has been given by a radio station in Minnesota!

Paris capped off her intense week by donning a dark wig and straw hat as she made her way to the sunny state of Hawaii.

While Paris was undoubtedly the focus of attention this week, other stars made news with stories of their own.

Britney Spears was reportedly planning on taking the stage this weekend in LA, as a special guest on Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” tour. A few days after that claim was reported, however, new reports surfaced that Britney had bowed out of the appearance due to having to sing rather than lip sync. Rumors were finally put to rest when a “True Colors” tour producer told PEOPLE that the show had reached out to Britney to perform at an earlier date in Las Vegas, but had never heard back from her, and that “they wouldn’t be able to accommodate another artist in the LA schedule anyway.”

Britney made headlines again when she made a personal delivery of some paperwork (believed to be of a legal nature) to her shocked mother, Lynne, on Thursday. Earlier this week X-17 reported Spears was planning to seek a restraining order to keep her mother from visiting her two boys. The paparazzi agency reported Spears believes her mother is abusing pain medication. Calls to reps for Spears were not returned at press time. A Los Angeles Superior Court representative had no knowledge of papers being filed.

But that’s not the only Britney-centric paperwork story reported this week. A source close to Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, told PEOPLE that Federline has resisted signing the former couple’s final divorce papers, allegedly out of concern over Spears’ recent behavior.

“Britney’s attorneys are anxious to see Kevin sign off on a divorce,” the source reportedly said. “But Kevin and his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, are dragging their heels out of concern over reports of Britney’s post-rehab partying.”

The source reportedly added that Federline’s camp “wants to make sure that the divorce document makes it simple enough for Kevin to downsize Britney’s access to her kids the next time her behavior troubles him.”

Under the agreement the couple reached in March, once papers are signed, Britney and Kevin would have joint legal and physical custody of their two sons – Sean Preston, 1, and Jayden James, 9 months.

“ER” star John Stamos’ behavior had people troubled this week, following appearances he made on two different TV programs in Australia. An unshaven and gum-chewing Stamos appeared slightly disoriented and slurred his speech during an interview on Monday, and then reportedly behaved strangely again the next day in an appearance on a morning show, insulting the show’s host and condemning reports published about his behavior the day before. Following his appearance on the second show, all other interviews were reportedly cancelled and Stamos was put on a plane back to the United States.

A rep for Stamos released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“John has been traveling extensively for the past few weeks in Greece, Egypt and Tokyo and had a difficult time adjusting to the time difference in Australia, which in turn led to many sleepless nights since his arrival. He acknowledges that his behavior was completely out of character during these interviews and apologizes.”

Speculation surrounding Rosie O’Donnell’s possible future as the new host of “The Price is Right” was finally put to rest this week — by Rosie herself. O’Donnell posted a video blog on her Web site on Monday, saying that it was the show’s Los Angeles location that was preventing her from taking the job. The game show’s producers reportedly offered her the hosting position, but she didn’t want to move her family from their home in New York.

“To get my entire family uprooted from their lives and move them cross country so I can have a fantasy childhood indulgence job, it just doesn’t seem fair,” she said. “They all are in school, they have friends. We love their school, we love our community, we love our house, our life, our home.”

In other TV news: CNN’s Nancy Grace revealed that she’s pregnant with twins (and married!), Joey Fatone got a job as host of a new NBC game show, and an actor on “Rescue Me” lashed out at Denis Leary over his character being killed off on the show.

In movie news: “Evan Almighty” ruled the weekend box office, Bruce Willis faced a mob at the “Live Free or Die Hard” premiere (and did a great stunt on “Late Show with David Letterman”), and casting announcements were made for Morgan Freeman, 50 Cent, Russell Crowe and Cameron Diaz.

The BET Awards show was chock full of memorable music moments this week, including a brief reunion for Destiny’s Child and a duet between two “Dreamgirls” divas.

In other music news: Bon Jovi took their new album to the top of the Billboard chart, Paul McCartney rocked fans with a surprise gig in LA, Usher announced that he was expecting his first child, and ‘90’s girl-group The Spice Girls announced that they would reunite for a world tour later this year!
