‘The Bachelor’: Chris Harrison Reacts To ‘Bizarre’ Ending

Juan Pablo Galavis’ decisions and his comments on Monday’s finale “The Bachelor” and “After The Final Rose” left show host Chris Harrison with his stomach in knots.

“I had like a pack of Tums and Pepto Bismol. I was just downing it during the show,” Chris told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on Tuesday, in a new interview. “It was an interesting, bizarre ride. I know I say this a lot about being dramatic and controversial and all that, but literally, in 12 years of doing this show and a lot of specials and ‘Bachelors’ and ‘Bachelorettes’, it was the most confusing, bizarre show I’ve ever seen.”

There was a moment on Monday night’s “After the Final Rose,” where Chris said that Juan Pablo had a surprise. But the surprise never came to fruition and Chris explained his side of things to Shaun.

“Juan Pablo told us in St. Lucia, that [on] ‘After the Final Rose,’ I have a big surprise for you,” Chris explained.

“He said it to one of our executives at ABC, who came immediately over to me and said, ‘Wow, OK,’ because we were all a little unsatisfied with the ending and the non-proposal [to Nikki] and the, ‘I like you a lot’ ending to the show. But he’s like, ‘Don’t worry. After the final rose, I have a big surprise for you,’” Chris recounted. “We’re like, ‘Oh, OK, great, maybe he’ll do something big and then…”

Chris said they were even promised the day before the “After the Final Rose” taping that a surprise was still coming.

“Someone got a text message, I heard, yesterday, that reiterated, that, ‘I’m gonna have a big surprise at the show tonight,’ so I thought the big surprise would at least be, ‘I love you,’” Chris said.

But when he asked Juan Pablo about the surprise on the show, the “Bachelor” said he didn’t have one, and appeared as if he wasn’t aware what Chris was talking about.

“I think that was the mood he was in last night,” Chris said. “He was in a defiant, defensive mood.”
