2011 CMA Awards Backstage: The Band Perry Is ‘Walking Away With Big Smiles’ After Win

The Band Perry ‘Ecstatic’ Over Grammy Nomination: ‘For Us It’s Like The Super Bowl’

The Band Perry received their second Grammy nomination on Wednesday and the country trio is over the moon with excitement.

“It’s kind of like a dream,” lead vocalist Kimberly Perry told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at the Grammy nominations concert in Los Angeles of their Best New Artist nod. “We’re ecstatic.

“The boys and I have always been in love with the Grammys – I’m talking like, made an event of it every single year,” she continued, referencing bandmates/brothers Reid and Neil Perry. “So, for us it’s like the Super Bowl!”

The 28-year-old singer said the band — whose breakthrough hit, “If I Die Young,” did not land in any country categories on this year’s Grammy ballot as it was up for Best Country Song last year – has a tried and true strategy for keeping their nerves at bay at award shows.

“We always kind of work on the assumption that we’re not going to get any nominations or awards, so then we’re pleasantly surprised,” she told Shaun. “So tonight, we were pleasantly surprised!

“It’ll be our first time to ever go to the Grammys, so to be there with the nominees – it’s just going to be a phenomenal night,” she added.

The 54th Grammys will air on February 12 on CBS.
