The Carrie Diaries: EP Amy B. Harris On The Eventual Introduction Of Stanford Blatch

Another new famous “Sex and The City” character is set to be featured in “The Carrie Diaries” this season — one of Carrie Bradshaw’s eventual best friends — Stanford Blatch.

“I think you’ll be surprised that we are getting Stanford, but not exactly as you thought,” “The Carrie Diaries” Executive Producer Amy B. Harris told AccessHollywood.com.

Stanford was briefly mentioned at the end of last season — he lives with Bennet Wilcox, who has chemistry with one of Carrie’s closest high school pals, Walt Reynolds (Brendan Dooling).

According to Amy, the young Stanford likes the road, something that allows the show to make Samantha Jones’ continued introduction (she made her debut in last week’s Season 2 premiere) more bold.

“What I loved about mentioning Stanford and knowing that he is Bennet’s roommate is Stanford might be a travelling man for a lot of the season, so that’s been sort of a fun way to [mention] someone, but we really wanted Samantha’s entrance to be sort of her own, and sort of explore that relationship before we kind of brought anybody else into the fold,” Amy said.

Amy said they are still deciding whether they will bring someone in, or keep Stanford a man of mystery.

“We’ve been debating,” she said. “I do think inevitably he’s probably one of the next people we will want to bring in. My whole thing has been like I want to be as realistic as possible to the source material, which is ‘Sex and The City,’ and when she would really meet these people and in my mind, Samantha and Stanford were really the only two I think she would meet while she was still in high school. … That felt realistic to me. I couldn’t see Miranda and Charlotte, who are both Carrie’s age, suddenly sort of showing up in Manhattan for some unknown reason.”

If they do cast Stanford, fans will undoubtedly be interested in seeing what the character, originated by “White Collar’s” Willie Garson, will look like with hair.

“I know! We’ve talked so much about that,” Amy said, when Access brought it up. “I’ve actually wanted to call Willie and be like, ‘Will you send me photos of you when you had hair?’”
