The Dish Blogs The Oscars Red Carpet

10:56 PM — This party seems to be a major bust. Right now I just might be the most famous person in the room! Oh wait… no, there is celebrity stylist Philip Bloch. He ranks a notch above me. That’s what we call a bust-o-rama! I think its time to wrap it up and head home.

10:00 PM — Annoyed again with Samantha Ronson. She mixes in and out of songs too fast. Just when it’s getting good she goes to another song. Play the darn song! She did the same thing at the ESPN party at the Super Bowl.

9:55 PM — Kevin McKidd from “Grey’s Anatomy,” with his pretty wife, gets a drink next to me at the bar. I think he recognizes from when I interviewed him for “Journeyman.” We lock eyes in the mirror behind the bar.

9:00 PM — Lindsay Lohan arrives in a horrible creme colored mini dress with six inch black heels at the Mercedes Benz party. She’s unbelievable skinny. Her girlfriend Samantha Ronson, who is very very skinny herself, is DJ’ing the party. So far the music sucks. She gets paid $3,000 an hour for this?! I’d give them my iPod party shuffle for free and it would be way better than this!

8:30 PM — Paris Hilton’s pop Rick is here with her mom Kathy. Paris is nowhere to be seen. It’s way to early for her to even think about going out. She’s probably still sleeping!

6:30 PM — arrive to the Mercedes Benz party. I’m told Michael Bolton and Padma Laksmi (sp) are the only celebs inside. I go in anyway. I gotta watch the show!

4:55 PM — Alicia Keys is the last celebrity to arrive on the carpet. I’m off to the parties now!

4:10 PM — Melissa George from “In Treatment” and “Grey’s Anatomy” arrives in a white dress that looks like it’s missing the top layer.

4:50 PM — Brad Pitt and Angelina arrive looking fantastic. Angie wears a basic black strapless gown but adds a pop of color with fun teal earrings and Brad keeps stepping aside to let her pose alone knowing it’s all about the dress. Brad does an interview with local KABC and Angie hangs back and is finally coaxed over. Brad then talks to the Canadian station next to KABC as Ryan Seacrest attempts to get Angelina. She blows off Seacrest claiming she has to go in and wants to say “Hi” to the fans. Ryan does manage to grab Brad for one sentence.

4:45 PM — Kate Winslet goes for old Hollywood glamour in a one shoulder charcoal grey gown. True Hollywood glamour. Photogs are screaming her name and she has a funny little frazzled moment where she is not sure where to look. Later she gives a wave to the crowd and they go nuts for her. She zips by all the press and for a live interview and then returns later.

4:42 PM — Bond. James Bond hits the carpet, Daniel Craig.

4:39 PM — Rick Schroeder? Why is he here?

4:38 PM — Nominee Philip Seymour Hoffman bucks the formal trend and sports a casual black cap on his head.

4:36 PM — Penelope Cruz looks very pretty but the part in her bangs seems a bit odd.

4:34 PM — Last year’s best supporting actress winner Marion Cotilliard disappoints from her amazing dress last year in a black dress that reminds me of something Helena Bonham Carter might choose.

4:31 PM — The legendary Sophia Loren shows the ladies how to pose like a true diva. Right after her, nominee Meryl Streep waits her turn to pose. She chats with her look-alike daughter as she waits. They look adorable in coordinating colored dresses.

4:32 PM — Jessica Biel leaves her best accessory behind, Justin Timberlake, and walks the carpet alone.

4:30 PM — Queen Latifah works it in a navy blue dress. Her matching purse has a fun little tassel. Evan Rachel Wood from “The Wrestler” is almost unrecognizable all glammed up.

4:25 PM — Mickey Rourke looks calm and cool in a white tux with a black vest. A perfect choice for him.

4:23 PM — Beyonce (clearly a Steelers fan!) in a black and gold dress. Love her. Hate the dress. Yuck.

4:18 PM — Anne Hathaway looks incredible in a gown that looks like she is wearing one big diamond. Apparently our fashionistas don’t agree with me and don’t like it. Maybe it looks different on TV, which is how they are seeing it, but it’s really amazing. Fashionistas think Natalie’s fuchsia dress deserves a best dressed. I think its a pretty color but boring.

4:15 PM — Robert Downey Jr. and his wife sneak up from the back as Marisa Tomei poses in a grey dress with an insanely large train. Natalie Portman checks her out while Anne Hathaway checks out Natalie.

4:11 PM — Seth Rogen looks super slim in a velvet tux. He’s lost a ton of weight. He poses with his “Pineapple Express” co-star James Franco and their significant others.

4:10 PM — Melissa George from “In Treatment” and “Grey’s Anatomy” in a white dress that looks like it’s missing the top layer.

4:06 PM — Sarah Jessica Parker poses with her husband Matthew Broderick. He fixes the train on her sea foam colored dress and then accidentally steps on Josh Brolin’s feet. Josh is here with his wife Diane Lane. He’s the nominee but she seems to be getting all the attention.

4:01 PM — My fiance has arrived!!!!! “Twilight’s” Rob Pattinson. Drool.

4:00 PM — Finally a little opening in the carpet so nominee Amy Adams can pose. Behind her is Amanda Seyfriend from “Mamma Mia.” Not loving her orange dress.

3:59 PM — A huge crux of non famous/non actor nominees arrive causing gridlock at the top of the red carpet. For some reason Richard Jenkins has come back up here too.

3:55 PM — Judd Apatow and his wife Leslie Mann arrive. She’s in a very metallic shiny dress. He looks uncomfortable posing. She looks like she loves every minute of it.

3:49 PM — Best actor nominee Richard Jenkins arrives, takes a few photos and then immediately heads down the carpet avoiding interviews.

3:37 PM — Three nominees arrive right in a row. Melissa Leo, Viola Davis and Taraji P Henson. Taraji looks the best in a creme colored dress with a fun red purse. She poses with Viola and then her mom and grandmother.

3:35 PM — John Legend poses with his date in a peach gown and lots of boob showing. One of the photogs yells, “eyes up please.” Kind of hard with that dress!

3:34 PM — Dev Patel and the stunning Frieda Pinto pose together. Frieda looks beautiful in a teal gown, which looks to have a little Indian influence. The photographers beg for her to pose alone. She does and blows a kiss to the camera.

3:32 PM — A producer from another entertainment news show yells down to an Indian family, “Are you from Slumdog?” They say, “No” they are from a documentary. Can you say faux pas?!

A minute later the real kids from “Slumdog” arrive and pose together. So cute!

(Apparently a lot of people made the same mistake about the “Slumdog” kids!)

3:31 PM — Dev Patel and Anil Kapoor forgo the limos and walk into the security tent from the street. A large group of seat fillers cheer and clap for them.

3:30 PM — Two Hollywood legends arrive Louis Gossett Jr. and Mickey Rooney.

3:27 PM — Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens arrive. She’s in a black mermaid gown. Zac gives her a sweet kiss on the temple and together they look up and take in the moment of being at the Oscars together.

3:25 PM — Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline come back to pose.

3:24 PM — Joel and Jennifer Grey arrive. The “Dirty Dancing” star looks pretty in black. I’m sure everyone will be asking her about her co-star Patrick Swayze tonight.

3:22 PM — Sir Anthony Hopkins poses with his pretty wife. He’s looking better than he did at the SAG Awards where he was super thin.

3:20 PM — Kevin Kline and wife Phoebe Cates breeze by the press claiming, “we’re coming back.” We’ll see if they actually do. Danny Glover does stop and pose with his very large family. How did he get so many tickets?!

3:18 PM — Dominic Cooper from “Mamma Mia” arrives. He is performing at the show.

3:05 PM — Virginia Madsen arrives in red and just behind her is Emile Hirsch.

3:00 PM — Right at the top of the hour Miley Cyrus is the first celebrity to arrive. She waits patiently in the security tent as Wolfgang Puck poses with some food. She let’s Danny Glover go in ahead of her. Her mom stands aside and then steps in to pose with her. Mom keeps fluffing out her dress for her. The dress is stunning but maybe a little too old for her?

2:30 PM — Just got in a fight with a nasty cameraman from E! who refuses to move. This could get ugly. I think I can take him.

2:15 PM — This is my twelfth consecutive year covering the Oscars. So much for the glamorous Oscars! No gown, no fancy hair. I’m standing behind the photographers in black pants and a black top at the top of the red carpet with a massive headset on so I can alert everyone who is arriving. Not exactly great for my “on air” reputation but a girl’s gotta blog and spots are tough to come by at the Oscars so you take what you can get.
