‘The Flash’ Season 2: Where Do Things Pick Up In The Premiere?

“The Flash” is back. The CW’s stellar superhero drama returns on Tuesday night, packed with twists and surprises.

“I think it’s gonna pick up in a slightly surprising place, not quite where people might be expecting it to pick up,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told Access Hollywood back at Comic-Con as filming began on the early part of Season 2. “But certainly, the ramifications of what they did in the finale are gonna play out heavily in the course of Season 2. They really messed up — they messed up and caused a lot of damage and some people have died and they’re going to have to live with that, and them coming to grips with what they’ve done and moving forward from there makes a lot of the dramatic heft of the early part of the season.”

Season 1 ended with the deaths of Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) and (fake) Harrison Wells, aka Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh). Eddie’s death, in particular, which occured when he sacrificed himself to save everyone, will weigh heavily on all of the characters. Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen/The Flash, though, has to deal with being thought of in public as the man who saved Central City.

The Flash “is getting a lot of acclaim as a hero and a lot of attention and it’s not sitting well with Barry, because as we all know, Eddie was kind of the hero and the guy that stopped Wells in the finale and for that and for some other reasons, Barry is having a hard time accepting the role of hero yet again,” Grant told Access at the same event. “And that will kind of be his journey for Season 2, is finding that confidence again, maturing. He’s got a new mentor that’s helping him discover some new powers.”

Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon, said the singularity that opened up at the end of the first season, will be addressed as the episodes roll out.

“The thing about the singularity is we [opened] up a wormhole, and so there’s still sort of a mystery as to where that wormhole leads and what are the physical repercussions of opening up that wormhole and that’s a lot of what the beginning of Season 2 is about,” Carlos told Access back at SDCC.

The actor also promised that answers are on the way about Tom Cavanagh’s role on the show going forward.

“Fans will definitely know what his role is in Season 2, around like, Episode 1 or 2. It’s very early on,” Carlos said.

“The Flash” returns to The CW on Tuesday night at 8/7c.
