‘The Flash’: Tom Cavanagh On Reverse Flash/Arrow/Flash/Firestorm Face-Off

Barry Allen is about to get some help in his fight against Tom Cavanagh’s The Reverse Flash.

Stephen Amell’s The Arrow and Robbie Amell’s half of Firestorm are headed to Central City on Tuesday’s “The Flash.”

“For fans of the shows, I don’t think they’ll be disappointed,” Tom Cavanagh told Access Hollywood of the expected face-off between his character, Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash, and the heroic trio. “We put a lot of effort and time and rehearsal and choreography into this.

“We know it’s a big deal,” Tom continued, referencing the 20 episodes so far of “The Flash” and three seasons of “Arrow” viewers have tuned in for. “We know that when the gunslingers face off against each other down a dusty street that you don’t do that in the first moments of a show, you put it at the end and so that’s what we’re doing. There’s a lot involved in it and a lot of I think great action. I get to do one of the scariest stunts ever and I think there’s a lot of great, great stuff in there.”

Beyond the matchup, Access had to ask if in the final two episodes of the season there will be an answer as to why Reverse Flash wants Barry Allen to die.

“Why he wants Barry to die, or why he wanted Barry to die? Wait, what did I do there? Yes,” Tom said.

A complete answer to that question or one that’s a bit more vague?

“You can’t always tell from my acting, but I’m of the school of ‘less is more,’ and one of the great things about the answer to that question is it very much falls in under the category of a ‘less is more’ answer, because Barry asks the question ‘Why?’ in an upcoming episode and The Reverse Flash — I’m talking about myself in the third person, I apologize — answers it cleanly and directly,” Tom (and Reverse Flash) told Access.

In late March, in the “Tricksters” episode of the series, the story of how Eobard Thawne (played for the first time in that episode by Matt Letscher) ended up looking like Harrison Wells was explained. He used a future device to transform his face and body into one that looked exactly like Harrison’s. So is any eau de Harrison still lingering around?

“That’s a great, great, question,” Tom said. “You know, we haven’t spent a lot of time addressing that. I think if you’ve been following the Harrison 2.0 or maybe it’s Harrison 1.0 and when you first meet me I’m Harrison 2.0 — I think we sort of like wrap that arc up around Episode 17 and put it on the [shelf]. But I just think it’s great when we get to put things on the shelf because you know how it is in this world… when you put things on the shelf, you can always take them off again. It’s not something we’re actively doing, but I love the fact that you’re entertaining the thought.”

“The Flash” continues this Tuesday at 8/7c and the Season 1 finale airs next week at the same time on The CW.
