‘The Leftovers’ Hiatus Provided ‘Perfect Cover’ For Theroux & Aniston Wedding

“The Leftovers” Season 2 was deep into production in August when its star, Justin Theroux, tied the knot with Jennifer Aniston.

As he sat down this week to promote his returning drama (it premieres Oct. 4), Justin told Access Hollywood how it worked out that he was able to get away from the big cable network production to say, “I do.”

“It was kind of perfect cover in a weird way,” Justin said. “We were doing a show and there was a sort of very logical writer’s hiatus that was going to be taking place. … And that was the cover. And it happened to coincide, not happened to, but coincided with my birthday. So, it became a beautiful thing.”

Justin’s character, Kevin Garvey, isn’t ready to walk down the aisle on “The Leftovers,” but the character begins Season 2 of the show in a happy place with Nora, played by Carrie Coon.

“It became apparent in the playing, or when we started filming the second season, that these two don’t actually know each other that well,” Justin said of Kevin and Nora, who – in Season 1 – seemed like they weren’t going to work out.

“I think what they’re sort of bonded over is sort of a common damage or similar hope that they can sort of help each other out with their own problems,” he said. “So it’s love, but it’s love in that way of, I think they’re aspiring to love each other the way they want to, or correctly. That being said, they begin in a very happy place, a hopeful place,” Justin said.

“The Leftovers” Season 2 premieres October 4 at 10 PM ET/PT on HBO.
