‘The Messenger’ Writer-Director In Negotiations For Kurt Cobain Biopic

A Kurt Cobain biopic may have found its director.

Oren Moverman, who made his directing debut with the Oscar-nominated drama “The Messenger,” is in negotiations to direct the prospective film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Moverman would also reportedly polish David Benioff’s existing scrip, based partially on the 2001 biography “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.”

The director is no stranger to bringing rock stars to the screen – he also co-wrote the Bob Dylan-centric film “I’m Not There.”

Universal owns the life rights of both the late Nirvana singer, who committed suicide in 1994 at the height of the grunge band’s fame, and his widow, Courtney Love.

Love is an executive producer on the potential film.

Moverman’s “The Messenger,” which stars Woody Harrelson, is nominated alongside co-writer Alessandro Camon for Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards. Harrelson is up for Best Supporting Actor.
