The Sound Of Music Live! Meet The Von Trapp Kids

The von Trapps have been cast.

NBC announced on Monday the names of the seven young actors set to take on the roles of the von Trapp children in the network’s musical production of “The Sound of Music Live!”

Joining “True Blood’s” Stephen Moyer (who is playing Capt. George von Trapp), Carrie Underwood (Maria), Audra McDonald (Mother Abbess), Laura Benanti (Elsa Schrader) and Christian Borle (Max Dettweiler) are seven stars on the rise.

Ariane Rinehart is playing Liesl, the eldest of the von Trapp children: Earlier this year, Ariane appeared in Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” video. Ariane is still a student, studying at Barnard College, a liberal arts college for women in New York.

Playing the teenage Fredrich (he was originally named Friedrich in the film version) is Michael Nigro. Fredrich is the second oldest of the von Trapp kids.

Ella Watts-Gorman is playing Louisa, the mischievous third child in the von Trapp family. Ella previously played the title role of “Annie” in the Riverhead High School production of the musical.

Joe West, who is playing the next von Trapp child – Kurt – made his Broadway debut last year in “A Christmas Story,” taking turns with another young actor in playing the role of Ralphie.

Sophia Caruso is Brigitta. She previously appeared in NBC’s “Smash” playing a young Norma Jean.

Grace Rundhaug, who is playing Marta, appeared in a local production of “Miracle on 34th Street” in Waterbury, New York.

Finally, Peyton Ella will play the young Gretl.

The three-hour telecast airs Thursday, December 5 at 8 PM ET/PT.
