‘The Vampire Diaries’: Candice Accola On The Fight To Get Caroline’s Humanity Back

Her friends will be fighting hard to turn Caroline Forbes’ humanity back on this Thursday night on “The Vampire Diaries.”

“We will find out what her emotional trigger is [this] week,” Candice Accola, who plays Caroline, told Access Hollywood. “And we’re going to see Stefan trying really hard to also figure it out because he’s trying to get her back and it’s just a giant game of chess so we’re going to see who wins.”

With his own humanity back on thanks to the (coached-by-Damon) Lily Salvatore, Stefan (Paul Wesley) will be trying hard to get the old Caroline back.

“I think that he obviously cares enough to want to bring her back from her emotionless state,” Candice said when Access asked for her thoughts on Stefan’s feelings for her character at this point.

Candice said she’s enjoyed the reaction from fans who have been watching the bonds strengthen between her character and Stefan (#Steroline).

“The fan reaction has been really encouraging. I personally really liked the storyline of Caroline and Stefan from… Season 2 on. I liked that it was a really slow burn. I liked that there were layers to this friendship and you know possibility of a relationship as opposed to it just being like forced in front of you like, ‘Look at them,'” she said.

While the stakes are high with Caroline’s humanity switch off, it has created some fun opportunities for Candice to sing on the show. There was the recent audition (where Stefan killed the director) and last week’s memorable karaoke session.

“I sang in an episode of Season 2 and that was going to be the first and the last time and I was like, ‘Well, that was fun.’ It’s just not a musical show, so all of a sudden it’s just been really funny where like, ‘Oh, well, we’re going to have you sing at the funeral. Oh actually, we’re going to have you sing another time. Oh, and you know what? We might do karaoke.’ And I was like, ‘What is happening?'” Candice laughed, as she explained how those moments came about. “I’m having a blast and it’s an interesting way to spend like a Monday morning, singing karaoke at 9 AM and dancing like a fool in front of your co-workers.”

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.
