“The Walking Dead” is getting a sibling.
AMC announced on Monday that the team of “TWD” creator Robert Kirkman and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will EP a companion series to the zombie apocalypse drama.
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of ‘The Walking Dead’ universe,” Kirkman said in a statement. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

AMC Studios will produce the companion series.
Meanwhile, in other apocalypse-themed news, HBO has ordered Damon Lindelof’s “The Leftovers,” based on the novel of the same name from Tom Perrotta, to series.

The one-hour drama, starring Justin Theroux, Amy Brennneman, former “Doctor Who” star Christopher Eccleston and Liv Tyler is about those who didn’t quite make the cut when the Rapture came.
“The Rapture happens, but not quite like it’s supposed to. This is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut … and a world that will never be the same,” read a tag line from the studio.
Former “Friday Night Lights” boss Peter Berg directed the pilot. No premiere date has been set.
