Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Divorcing; Tom ‘Deeply Saddened’ By Katie Filing

It’s the end of the road for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

After nearly six years of marriage, the couple is getting a divorce, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Tom’s rep told Access in a statement on Friday. “Please allow them their privacy.”

Katie’s attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, also spoke out regarding the split.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” he told People on Friday. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Tom, who will celebrate his 50th birthday on Tuesday, wed Katie, 33, in Italy in November 2006.

They have one child together, 6-year-old Suri.

Katie and Tom made their last public appearance together at the Vanity Fair Academy Awards party on February 26. Katie was noticeably absent at the June premiere of her soon-to-be ex’s latest movie, “Rock of Ages.”

She also skipped a Friars Club event in early June, where Tom was honored with the fourth ever Entertainment Icon Award.

When asked why Katie was not in attendance on his big night, Tom told Access Hollywood his wife had a scheduling conflict.

“These dates moved around, she couldn’t, you know, move her schedule,” he told Access at the June 12 event in New York City. “So, she made this suit for me to wear tonight, so she is with me.”

This was Katie’s first marriage, and Tom’s third – the “Rock of Ages” star was previously married to Nicole Kidman from December 1990 until February 2001, and to actress Mimi Rogers from May 1987 to February 1990.
