Tom Holland Cast As New Spider-Man

Tom Holland is Marvel’s new web-slinger!

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced that the 19-year-old British actor will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, slated to hit theaters in 2017.

The actor is best known for his title role in “Billy Elliot the Musical” and the film, “The Impossible,” where he played Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor’s son. The young star also appeared in the TV mini-series, “Wolf Hall.”

Over the weekend, the actor showed off his high-flying, acrobatic skills (no CGI here!) in an Instagram video.

It was also announced that Jon Watts, who helmed “Cop Car,” will direct the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

Sony and Marvel did not say if Holland will have a cameo in “Captain America: Civil War,” which will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

The superhero has previously been played by Tobey Maguire, in three films and Andrew Garfield, who starred as the web-slinger twice.

The next Spider-Man film will swing into theaters on July 28, 2017.
