Tyler Grady Explains Why He Called The ‘American Idol’ Judges Out

Tyler Grady, the curly haired ‘70s-inspired rocker who got the boot from “American Idol” on Thursday night, has no regrets for calling out the judges as he said goodbye.

“I felt like I would have regretted it if I didn’t just kind of put out my feelings on that,” Tyler told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman on Friday.

On Wednesday, after performing “American Woman,” and swaggering across the stage with his snakey hips and Led Zeppelin-style moves, Simon Cowell slammed the 20-year-old from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, with comments echoed by fellow judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres.

“You come over a lot as somebody who’s gone to ‘Pretend To Be a Rockstar’ school,” Simon said. “It’s all a bit cliched, it doesn’t feel natural and it is a singing competition. I don’t think you’re spending enough time concentrating on your vocals.”

And finally, on Thursday, following his elimination, Tyler took on the judges.

“I like all the judges and I really had a great time with them,” Tyler said on the live show. “But I feel like I didn’t really get much constructive criticism during Hollywood Week and I feel like what they told me was a little bit too late.”

Disappointed by his elimination, Tyler told Laura on Friday he was still confused about why the judges waited until the first live round to call him out for sounding and performing in a dated fashion.

“I just wish they could have been more constructive during Hollywood Week and not really contradict themselves [on the show],” Tyler said.

“There’s no hard feelings,” he added. “I don’t regret saying it and I still like them all. They’re very cool people, but I just felt like I had to get that off my chest.”
