Update: Kris Humphries Files For Separation From Kim Kardashian

One month after Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries, her husband of 72 days, the NBA star has responded by filing a request of his own.

Kris, 26, “filed for legal separation and nullity of marriage,” a rep for the New Jersey Nets player told Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

The request was filed in California, where the lavish wedding took place.

A source close to Kris told Access that the athlete ultimately hopes to get their short-lived marriage annulled, thereby clearing the record of their union ever having taken place.

“He is sensitive to marriage, both emotionally and religiously,” the source said. “He went into it in good faith and never expected things to turn out this way.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, after weeks of rumors claiming he was still hoping to make his brief marriage to Kim work, Kris hired divorce attorney Lee Hutton earlier this month.

Hutton previously repped the athlete during prenup negotiations.

Kim, 31, hired famed divorce attorney Laura Wasser (Britney Spears, Maria Shriver) and, according to the divorce filing, is asking that Kris pay his own lawyer fees.

She also asks that the court reject any attempt by Kris to obtain spousal support.
