Valerie Bertinelli is getting candid about her nuptials to longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale, an event guests didn’t even know was going to be a wedding.
“We wanted it to be a surprise,” Valerie told People. We didn’t want anyone bringing presents.”
The couple’s loved ones were invited to the New Year’s Day wedding at the couple’s cliff-side Malibu home by e-mail only being told the 50-year-old actress was hosting a “special event.”
The bride entered to Etta James’ “At Last” wearing a custom blue silk chiffon gown by David Meister and shoes by Jimmy Choo.

“I do not know how to describe how I felt when she walked down the aisle,” Tom told the mag. “It just felt completely, totally right.”
“I heard the applauding, but I don’t remember a thing,” the actress added.
Before the guests arrived, Valerie told the mag she was able to relax and avoided becoming a bridezilla. She enjoyed a flaxseed waffle for breakfast, jogged on the treadmill, listened to Pink and gave herself an at-home spray tan while watching the Rose Parade.
Following the couple’s vows, guests enjoyed beef tenderloin, lobster and chocolate souffles.
Valerie’s “One Day at a Time” co-star, Pat “Schneider” Harrington, gave the couple a loving toast and was comically interrupted by the sitcom’s theme song.
The couple is planning a honeymoon in Italy this spring.
“I can’t imagine life getting any better than this!” the “Hot in Cleveland” star added.
