‘The Vampire Diaries’ Cast On Vendetta Against Julian & Making Lily Pay

Julian was only just brought back to life on “The Vampire Diaries,” but Stefan and Damon Salvatore are already plotting his demise.

And it just so happens that the brothers will be in close proximity to him when their mother, Lily, decides to throw a dinner party at the Salvatore home on Thursday’s episode of The CW drama. When Stefan arrives, he will be ready to take Julian down (since he just learned what his mother’s beau did to Valerie and their unborn baby), but not everyone is on board with the plan.

“Stefan is very aggressive about it because of the history with Julian and everything he knows of him and he obviously has this enormous vendetta against him, so he wants to immediately just take him out, and Damon is a little bit more the political one of the two,” Paul Wesley told reporters on “The Vampire Diaries” set in Atlanta on Wednesday. “Usually it’s Damon being irrational and Stefan being rational and it’s the opposite, and so they go to this party and Stefan… has one thing and one thing only on his mind, which is taking out Julian.”

Ian Somerhalder said Damon is approaching the situation wanting to cause Lily as much pain as possible (since she is the one who gave Kai the idea for Elena’s sleep state).

“Damon wants to draw it out, Damon wants her to find that passion again for this man. He wants her to experience true love again, and then, once she’s settled and happy and super content and living in my house and schtupping this guy in my bed, when she’s at this sort of peak of happiness in six months where she thinks everything’s OK, then Damon wants to swoop in and then hand deliver his heart to her [and] just crush her,” Ian said on Wednesday, as he sat in the Salvatore home set.

With Elena, the love of Damon Salvatore’s life, in a sleep state for the next several decades, he could do anything in his revenge plot against the woman who messed with his future, and his past.

“Stefan, luckily weathered the storm so much better,” Ian said of the Salvatore brothers’ childhood. “Damon just never recovered and the two women that he loved the most, which were Catherine and his mother, broke his heart — they pulverized it — and so without having Elena around to sort of soften his heart, and talk sense into him — which he actually was not anywhere near as fun — he is a wildcard and he really is hell-bent on making Lily pay.”

The Salvatore brothers having different goals and timelines related to Julian will set up conflict.

“It’s gonna actually create a lot of friction, oddly enough,” Ian said.

Bonnie (Kat Graham), though, will be involved in helping Damon do right by Elena.

“The Lily/Damon storyline, you’ll see it evolving over the next few episodes and you’ll see Bonnie being a support system for Damon,” Kat said on set.

“I think you’ll start to see Bonnie taking things into her own hands to do things to support Damon, but you won’t – the Lily storyline has a way to go before it kind of reaches its kind of culmination,” she added.

Beyond the Lily/Julian situation, Thursday night’s “TVD” will feature some Bonnie/Enzo scenes. Kat said the two characters will interact at Lily’s present-day dinner party.

“You’ll see a lot of stuff between Enzo and Bonnie, which is super exciting ’cause I love working with [Michael] Malarkey,” Kat said. “There’s a really cool dynamic there.”

But don’t expect a rush into the relationship the two have in the flash forward.

“I think that they’re developing it very, very slowly,” she said of the Bonnie/Enzo romance. “Over the next few episodes, you’ll see a lot of their dynamic together, but it’s still very much present day Bonnie and Enzo. So you see our kind of — I don’t know if it’s like cat and mouse or this very sparring dynamic. We have to still wait to see the actual turn of when that happened and what happened to put Bonnie in the place that she was at and all that — to see that version of the character, what people saw last week and how do you get to that place?”

A sneak peek on CWTV.com showed an uncomfortable exchange from Thursday’s episode where Caroline and Stefan’s conversation is interrupted by his ex, Valerie, who comes downstairs in a towel to inform him the shampoo bottle is empty. Stefan’s past, and complicated current relationship with his heretic ex-girlfriend, Valerie, is definitely putting Caroline off her game.

“What I love is we’ve seen Caroline become such a strong character and kind of fight off a lot of her insecurities, and what I think is interesting is now that she’s with Stefan and especially this season, her insecurities are actually coming back really strong,” Candice King said.

Valerie becoming a bigger part of their lives will lead to some more interactions between the ex and Stefan’s love.

“We’re going to see Caroline and Valerie interacting a lot in the next couple episodes,” Candice said. “[Valerie] begins to reveal more truths about her character individually and her history with Stefan.”

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.
